Image editor

Crop images on upload and mark them up with arrows, rectangles and text – on touch devices and in the advanced editor

→ Open the advanced image editor

With the image editor you crop images and add markings like arrows, rectangles and text. It's mainly intended for annotating a just-selected photo directly on upload to a record – such as a job photo you take with your smartphone.

The image editor is not a menu item in the dashboard. It opens automatically when, on a device with a touchscreen (e.g. smartphone or tablet), you upload a single image to the files area of a record. On the desktop the image is uploaded directly without an intermediate step.

When the editor opens

The editor appears as soon as you select exactly one image in the files area of a record on a touch device. This works in the file cards of the common records – including orders, customer orders, products, customers, invoices, delivery notes, proposals, service requests and tasks.

You then work in full screen on a canvas: the toolbar sits at the bottom, the action bar at the top. After saving, the edited image is stored as a new file on the respective record.

If you select several images at once or upload a file on the desktop, the editor doesn't open – the files are uploaded directly. Already-stored images can't be opened in the editor afterwards.

Tools

The toolbar at the bottom offers four tools (left to right):

  • Arrow – drag an arrow to point to a spot.
  • Text – opens an input window to add a label (see below).
  • Rectangle – drag a frame to mark an area.
  • Crop – drag a selection over the image and confirm with Crop (or discard with Cancel). The image is reduced to the chosen area; existing markings move along.

If you tap an already-active tool again, you switch back to selection mode. There you can grab, move and resize set markings.

Choose a colour

For Arrow, Text and Rectangle, a row of colour dots appears above the toolbar. Choose a colour before you set the marking – the default is red. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, white and black are available.

Add text

Open the text tool

In the toolbar, tap Text. The Add text window opens.

Set colour and content

Choose a colour at the top. Enter your own label under Custom text and confirm with OK or the Enter key.

Or use a text block

Under Text blocks there are ready-made labels for typical service cases (e.g. "Check tyres", "Check brakes", "Maintenance done"). A tap inserts the block directly as text.

Edit, undo and save

In the action bar at the top you control the rest:

  • Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) for editing steps.
  • Delete element – removes the currently selected marking. This button appears only when a marking is selected; alternatively press Del or Backspace.
  • Delete all markings – removes all set markings at once.
  • Save – exports the image with all markings and uploads it.

On Save the edited image is stored as a new file on the associated record. Since the editor only works on a freshly selected upload, no existing image is overwritten.

On the canvas you can zoom with the mouse wheel or a two-finger gesture and move the image to hit details more precisely.

Advanced editor (Filerobot)

Under /dashboard/image-editor there's additionally an advanced editor based on Filerobot. Besides cropping it also offers rotate and flip as well as further markup tools (arrow, line, pen, rectangle, ellipse, text).

This page isn't a dedicated menu item and can't easily be opened directly: it needs an image as a starting point (via an imageUrl parameter in the address) and the permission to edit orders. An edited image lands in the order folder. If you open the address without an image, only the note that the image parameter is missing appears.
